Anchorage Housing Club advocates for human centered transportation and abundant housing for all residents in Anchorage.
AHC recently hosted a community conversation to hear from residents on the challenges they face accessing transit and housing, as well as the future they envision for the city. Community input was compiled into a report. Read the full report below.
Our Mission
We believe that Anchorage can become a community where everyone thrives. We actively influence housing and transportation policy by mobilizing Anchorage residents who share our vision of human-centric transportation and abundant, quality housing.
Our Values
Justice: Center voices that aren’t being heard and prioritize lived experience.
Accountability: Ensure decision makers include those impacted by their decisions.
Community: Advocate for accessbility in all spaces, from accessible housing to accesible meetings.
Trust: Prioritize reciprocal relationships over urgency and other external pressures.
Current AHC Projects
Transit Supportive
Development Overlay
The Anchorage Housing Club has been working been to support an ordinance that would make it possible to build more housing near transit. This ordinance is called the Transit Supportive Development Overlay ordinance, or TSDO. TSDO was reviewed by the Planning and Zoning Commission and passed through the Commission. It is now on pause for further community input. Email the mayor in support of TSDO at mayor@muni.org.
Political Mobilization for pro-housing policies
Anchorage Housing Club mobilizes its members in support of pro-housing policies. Members monitor for upcoming Assembly resolutions of interest, and issues to be discussed before other relevant bodies. The Club shares information about these issues through our email list, political action events, and on social media. The Club encourages the community to engage in the public process, and take political action.
Coalition Building
Anchorage Housing Club works with stakeholders across the housing landscape, as we work towards a future where everyone in Anchorage can thrive. We hope to work more closely with community members most impacted by our city’s housing crisis. If you are interested in learning more about AHC, or collaborating, please feel free to reach out to the club’s Housing Organizer Nithya Thiru. You may reach them via email at nithya@akpirg.org.
During our Community Conversation event in October, we compiled responses from the attendees into a report that we plan to send to the Assembly in support of TSDO.
